Read articleNick began in the fencing industry and eventually advanced to his current role of Estimating Manager at Deerness.
Nick's primary responsibility entails all aspects of estimating for new build plot sites, civil, and projects, including the production of CAD take-offs to determine the size, measurements, and materials required, reading drawings so that he can gain a better understanding of the scheme, compiling bills of quantities; and submitting successful tenders for the project. After Nick wins the tender, he will ensure that we pull together all the drawings and information for the commercial and construction files. He will then complete a handover meeting involving the contract teams. Nick also ensures that we search and tender for frameworks and other portal schemes through the same portals that local authorities and housing groups procure their schemes through. Nick will collate all the tendering information from the portal and submit a bid based on the information requested. This will enable him to submit a winning bid. Nick will hand over successful bids to the business's commercial and operations departments.
Nick is also responsible, annually, for the renewal of all our key accreditations, which are required in the construction industry. Nick has also become the quality manager of our ISO 9001:2015 management system. This involves ensuring compliance with all aspects of quality and business systems. Our fundamental policies are compliant and up-to-date. We asked Nick in September 2022 to join the team to develop the business’s new website and rebrand it. Nick has worked closely with other members of the team over several months with the website developer to launch the business's new brand and website successfully.
